President Sonnenschein encourages University community to contribute to ‘Giving to Help’ Campaign for United Way agencies.

    Oct. 21, 1999

Dear Member of the University Community:

The University of Chicago is a remarkable community of people who, whether as faculty, staff or students, are dedicated to supporting the highest educational ideals. This shared commitment helps to make the University a special and vibrant place.

This year, as in past years, I am writing to ask that you join me in putting idealism and commitment to work in the larger Chicago community by contributing to the University’s annual “Giving to Help” Campaign. By supporting this campaign, each of us has an opportunity to help ensure that some of the most pressing social ills of our day are addressed, whether under the auspices of the United Way or through some other United States charity.

Last year, our campaign raised well over a quarter of a million dollars, and I am very proud of this achievement. I now ask you to help us meet this year’s goal of $275,000.

The University’s Campaign seeks to foster the spirit of

giving while allowing employees to support the charity of their choice. Your gift will help to ensure a better future for all of us.

    Sincerely,

    Hugo Sonnenschein
