Gifts of honor

President Sonnenschein presents a gift to Japanese Consul General Mitoji Yabunaka, who attended a recent ceremony at the Joseph Regenstein Library for a Japan Foundation donation of books. The donation honored the University and commemorated Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi’s May visit to campus. The books that were donated to the library, which is widely considered to have one of the top 10 Japanese book collections in the United States, were on Japanese history and literature. Some of the books donated include The Writings of Koda Aya: A Japanese Literary Daughter, Kanji Politics: Language Policy and Japanese Script and Fukuzawa Yukichi on Education.
