For the third year in a row, the University Hospitals have been selected as one of the best hospitals in the United States by U.S. News & World Report in its annual survey of America’s nearly 7,000 hospitals.

In the 1999 Best Hospitals issue (July 19), the University Hospitals ranked 13th nationally overall and were among the best in all 12 specialties rigorously studied.

The University Hospitals programs that ranked in the top 10 are endocrinology (No. 7), gastroenterology (No. 7) and cancer (No. 7). Others in the top 20 are gynecology (No. 14), geriatrics (No. 12) and pulmonology (No. 14). Five other programs––cardiology and cardiac surgery, otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), neurology, orthopedics and rheumatology––ranked in the top 30.

The University Hospitals were the only Illinois facility to merit inclusion in the Honor Roll of the Best Hospitals in the United States.
