Music Department will hold auditions for ensembles

Auditions for the University’s performance ensembles in the Department of Music will be held Thursday, Sept. 16, through Tuesday, Sept. 28.

Membership in all of the department’s performance ensembles is open to University faculty, students, alumni and staff as well as to community residents and other interested musicians.

The performance ensembles include the University Symphony Orchestra, University Chamber Orchestra, University Wind Ensemble, University Chorus, Motet Choir, Rockefeller Chapel Choir, Jazz X-tet, New Music Ensemble, Gamelan Ensemble, Middle East Ensemble and Chamber Music groups. Each of the ensembles rehearses weekly and presents three to six concerts each season.

Specific time, location and repertoire information is available through a special audition hot line at (773) 702-9075 or on the Department of Music Web page: http://music.uchicago.edu/. Musicians may sign up for audition times via the Web page beginning Tuesday, Sept. 7, or they may come to the Department of Music’s main office in Room 309, Goodspeed Hall, 1010 E. 59th St.

In the case of ensembles or sections with limited membership, preference is given to qualified students of the University. Community members and other interested musicians usually can be accommodated, particularly in the two largest ensembles: the University Symphony Orchestra and the University Chorus.

Further information about auditions may be obtained by phoning (773) 702-9075.
