    Young poets honored

    Writer Gwendolyn Brooks, the first African-American to receive a Pulitzer Prize, gave 1999 Illinois Poet Laureate Awards to 34 students from the Chicago area. The award recipients, elementary and high school students, celebrated with Brooks June 15 at the University’s Max Palevsky Theater.
