Luis Castro Leiva, 56
Luis Castro Leiva, the Edward Larocque Tinker Visiting Professor in Latin American History, died April 8. He was 56.
Castro Leiva was professor at the Instituto Internacional de Estudios Avanzados in Caracas, Venezuela. He also served in 1997 as Tinker Visiting Professor in Latin American and Iberian Studies at the Irving B. Harris Graduate School of Public Policy Studies. He was the author of several books and an expert on jurisprudence in Latin America and its relationship to European thought. He is survived by his wife, Carole Leal Curiel; sons, Luis Enrique Castro Kerdel and Juan Cristobal Castro Kerdel; brother, Raśl Castro Leiva; and mother, Rebeca Leiva de Castro.
