The 454th Convocation will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. Approximately 400 degrees will be conferred. The University first observed the commemoration in 1893 at the close of the first quarter and, with the exception of Spring Convocation, it has been celebrated in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel since 1928.

Daniel Garber, the Lawrence Kimpton Distinguished Service Professor in Philosophy, will present the Convocation address, “Teaching What Cannot Be Taught.”

Candidates must arrive at Rockefeller Memorial Chapel at 1:30 p.m., entering through the carriage drive door and down the left stairwell to the basement. The chapel will be opened to guests with tickets at 2:15 p.m. More information about Convocation is at the Web site: http://www2.uchicago.edu/adm-spec-events/Convocation/ or with the Convocation Coordinator at (773) 702-2513.
