    Slone named All-American

Softball player Erin Slone, a first-year in the College, was named to the 1998 Louisville Slugger NCAA Division III All-America Team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

A Third Team selection as a catcher, Slone batted .538 with nine home runs and 30 RBIs in 32 games this past season. Her .538 average was a Chicago season record and ranked seventh in the NCAA Division III, while her 0.28 home runs per game stood eighth in the NCAA III statistical rankings.

Slone was one of just six freshmen named to the 50-player All-America Team and the lone newcomer among the six catchers selected.

Under second-year head coach Michelle Hawkins, Chicago posted its winningest season to date in 1998 with a 20-15 mark, which gave the Maroons back-to-back winning campaigns for the first time since 1987-88. Chicago compiled an 18-14-1 mark in 1997.
