    ACCOLADES

    Martha Feldman, Associate Professor in Music, has been named a Getty Scholar for the 1998-99 academic year. Feldman will spend the year conducting research at the Getty Research Institute for the History of Art and the Humanities in Los Angeles.

    Steven Sibener, Professor in Chemistry and Director of the University's Materials Research Science and Engineering Center, has been elected a fellow of the American Physical Society. Sibener was cited for his work "elucidating physical and chemical processes at surfaces by inelastic helium scattering and other means."

    Luping Yu, Professor in Chemistry, has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the Mr. and Mrs. Sun Chan Memorial Award in Organic Chemistry. The international award, established by Sunney Chan, director of the Institute of Chemistry of Academia Sinica in Taiwan, recognizes young organic chemists of Chinese descent.

    The Oriental Institute Museum has received a Superior Achievement Award for the Oriental Institute/Chicago Public Schools Collaboration for the World History Curriculum. The award, which is granted by the Illinois Association of Museums, was given for an outreach program that provides teacher training, curriculum materials, museum field trips and classroom visits by University archaeologists for a wide-ranging cross-section of Chicago public schools located throughout the city. This project is funded by the Polk Bros. Foundation.
