    Autumn Convocation Dec. 12

Autumn Convocation ceremonies will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. Approximately 375 degrees will be conferred.

Craig Thompson, Professor in Medicine and Molecular Genetics & Cell Biology, will present the Convocation address, "Better Living Through Biology?"

This will be the 450th Convocation, first celebrated in 1893 at the close of the University's first quarter. John Callaway, senior correspondant for WTTW/Channel 11, will receive the Benton Medal for Distinguished Public Service (see story on page 1).

Degree candidates will assemble at 1:30 p.m. Candidates should enter the chapel through the east carriage door and proceed to the basement. Candidates not present in the basement at 2:15 p.m. will not be permitted to march. The main doors of the chapel will open at 2:15 p.m.; no guests will be admitted before then.

Tickets for Convocation must be claimed in person by degree candidates; they may be picked up beginning Monday, Dec. 8, at the Dean of Students' Office for the candidate's division or school or at the College Advisers' Desk. Those who have ordered gowns may pick them up in Reynolds Club between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, and between 8:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12. Caps and robes for undergraduates and master's degree candidates will be distributed from the Reynolds Club marketplace. Doctoral academic attire will be available on the second floor of Reynolds Club.
