    City budget director Diane Aigotti joins Hospitals as Vice President

    Will manage financial relationship between Hospitals and University Diane Aigotti has been appointed Vice President and Director, Office of Budget and Management, at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Health Systems (UCHHS), effective Dec. 15. She will be responsible for establishing the overall budgets for all UCHHS entities, creating the multi-year operating and capital plan and managing the budget relationship between the UCHHS and the University of Chicago.

    Aigotti comes to UCHHS from her position as budget director for the city of Chicago, where since July 1995 she has managed the $4 billion budget for more than 40 city departments and 40,000 employees. As budget director, Aigotti instituted a major overhaul of the city's purchasing process; established a $1 billion, three-year capital improvement program; and expanded library, school and park district resources.

    "Diane Aigotti has demonstrated a talent for combining creative financial thinking with public service in a number of positions, ranging from local to national government," said Ralph Muller, President and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System. "We look forward to working with her to continue to provide the best health care to more and more people in an innovative and financially sound manner."

    Before becoming the city's budget director, Aigotti was assistant to the mayor, where she negotiated the state legislation that established mayoral control of the Chicago public schools system. She was a member of Mayor Daley's re-election campaign team in 1995 after serving as assistant to the mayor and to the city's chief financial officer from 1992 to 1994.

    Prior to joining Daley's team, she worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. House of Representatives.
