Klass appointed Deputy Dean for Housing & Dining Services

Stephen Klass, former Director of Auxiliary Services, has been appointed Deputy Dean for Housing & Dining Services. With this appointment, Klass also holds the title Assistant Dean of the College.

As Deputy Dean for Housing & Dining Services, Klass assumes general responsibility for the management of all University House System programs and operations. He will devote particular attention to long-range strategic planning as the University considers expansion of the House System over the next several years.

As Assistant Dean of the College, he will act as a liaison between the College and Housing & Dining Services, ensuring coordination of academic and residential programs, and will work to strengthen faculty involvement in the House System.

"I am delighted that Steve Klass has agreed to take on this important new position," said John Boyer, Dean of the College. "Among our goals over the next five years will be to develop much closer cooperation between the College and the Housing system. I want to make sure that the Housing system has the resources to accomplish its broadest mission, which should be to foster a supportive community for our students that complements and even enriches the rigorous academic work of the College."

Klass came to the University in 1995 as Director of Auxiliary Services. In the past two years he has been involved in two major initiatives: redesigning the food service programs and restructuring the University bus services. Klass came to Chicago from the University of Rochester, where he was director of business affairs and operations.
