    Convocation March 21

Winter Convocation ceremonies will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, March 21, in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. Approximately 442 degrees will be conferred.

Joel Snyder, Professor and Chairman of Art History and Professor in the Committee on Visual Arts and in the College, will present the Convocation address, "In Defense of Images."

During the ceremony, the Benton Medal for Distinguished Public Service will be presented to Geoffrey Canada, president and chief executive officer of the Rheedlen Centers for Children and Families in New York (see story above). The Benton Medal recognizes extraordinary service to the field of education and to the University.

Degree candidates should enter the chapel through the east carriage door and proceed to the basement. Candidates not present in the basement at 2:15 p.m. will not be permitted to march. The main doors of the chapel will open at 2:15 p.m.; no guests will be admitted before then.

Tickets for Convocation must be claimed in person by degree candidates; they may be picked up beginning Monday, March 17, at the Dean of Students' Office for the candidate's division or school or at the College Advisers' Desk. Those who have ordered gowns may pick them up in the south lounge on the second floor of Reynolds Club between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, and between 8:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Friday, March 21.
