Callers must use new 773 area code

As of Saturday, Jan. 11, all calls to the University must be made with the new 773 area code. Although the new area code became effective Oct. 12, both the 312 and 773 area codes have been in use for the past three months.

The area code has changed for all of Hyde Park and the rest of the city outside the downtown Loop area. The area code for the Gleacher Center is still 312.

Most wireless services, such as cellular phones and pagers, have not been required to change area codes. One exception to this is the telephone number used by faculty and staff members to access the University's paging system, now (773) 753-1880.
