    Calendar Highlights: "Awesome Ancient African Arts!":

    Family fun at Oriental Institute Children can explore the archaeological heritage of Africa from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m Sunday, Feb. 4, as they make lucky charms, work with leather and participate in other activities in the family program "Awesome Ancient African Arts!" at the Oriental Institute Museum.

    Experts will demonstrate spinning and weaving processes used in ancient Egypt and leather-working techniques from ancient Nubia. The activities are designed for children ages 6 to 12, accompanied by an adult.

    Families can also visit Egyptian and Nubian exhibitions at the museum and watch the film Mummies Made in Egypt, featuring actor LeVar Burton. The film will be shown every half hour, from 12:30 to 3 p.m.

    The event, which celebrates African-American History Month, is free and open to the public. No reservations are required.
