    Obituary: Chee-Jun William Chan

Chee-Jun William Chan, a first-year student in the College, died Jan. 10 after a long bout with cancer. He was 18.

"Chee-Jun was a talented musician as well as a gifted student who will be greatly missed by the many friends he made during his short time at Chicago," said Katie Nash, Dean of Students in the College. Chan attended classes and lived at Shoreland Hall through the end of first quarter, when his illness forced him to return home.

A native of Darien, Ill., Chan had performed this summer in concert at the Ravinia Festival as a violinist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He also performed with the University Symphony Orchestra. He had planned to concentrate in chemistry.

He is survived by his father, Sai-Kit Chan, his mother, Helen W. Chan, and a sister, Wai-Sinn Chan, of Darien. Mr. Chan is a scientist at Argonne National Laboratory.
