Live jazz and more at open house

Samples of Perrier sparkling water and Ghirardelli chocolates, live jazz music and complimentary flowers will be part of the festivities at an open house and dedication ceremony celebrating the completion of remodeling at the Hyde Park Co-op supermarket, one of the nation's oldest and largest grocery cooperatives. The open house, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1. The Co-op is located in Hyde Park Shopping Center, 55th Street and Lake Park Avenue.

Jazz musicians Joan Collaso and the Larry Hanks Trio will entertain during the open house, and classical piano music will be performed by Grant Moffit of the Chicago Youth Symphony. Tours of the Co-op will begin every half-hour from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and an exhibit will showcase the Co-op's history. There also will be wine and champagne tastings, and door prizes will be awarded.

The Co-op will continue to celebrate throughout October with ongoing special events, plus a membership drive that will benefit the Hyde Park & Kenwood Interfaith Council. For each new member, the Co-op will donate $2 to the council. For more information, call 667-1444.
