    Obituary: August Lucy

August Lucy, a Hospitals employee for the past 24 years, died the evening of March 14 when he was shot in the 6000 block of Champlain Avenue. Lucy was riding his bicycle to a friend's house when he was caught in the crossfire between rival gangs and killed by a stray bullet. He was 45.

For the past 22 years, Lucy had been a caretaker in Animal Resources at the Hospitals.

"August was an energetic and unusually capable man, and we'll all miss him," said his supervisor, James Boardman, Operations Manager for Animal Care Services. "He was outspoken and opinionated, and he liked to voice those opinions. Those who disagreed with him liked him anyway."

Lucy is survived by his wife, Larry Lucy; two sons, August Lucy Jr. and Deon Lucy; and two stepsons, Otis Hilliard and Christopher Hilliard.
