Library adds to its electronic holdings

The University Library has added four more data bases to its electronic resources -- Anthropological Literature, Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals, History of Science and Technology, and Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals.

These data bases, part of RLG's Eureka on-line search service, are available to the University community through the campus network. The files are also available on networked stations in the Chemistry Library, Crerar Library, D'Angelo Law Library, Eckhart Library, Regenstein Library and the Social Service Administration Library. A photocopy of an article in a journal not held by the Library may be requested by using the request option.

Faculty, students and staff who have accounts on the Academic Server Cluster may access these data bases by entering "eureka" at the quads, ellis, kimbark or woodlawn prompt. For more information about accessing or using these resources, e-mail Eureka@lib.uchicago.edu.

The University Library also now offers access to the full text of approximately 900 journal titles via the FastDoc feature on OCLC's FirstSearch. Made available by funding from the Illinois State Library, many of the records in FastDoc, Article1st and ABI/INFORM are linked to ASCII full text and may be viewed on-line, printed, downloaded or e-mailed. The Illinois State Library is also funding access to 39 extra FirstSearch data bases for a two-month period, from March 1 through April 30.

For more information regarding FirstSearch, call the Reference Department at 702-4685 or e-mail questions to FirstSearch@lib.uchicago.edu.
