Library adds new data bases to holdings

The University Library has added to its electronic resources four more data bases -- Art Index, the MLA International Bibliography, Dissertation Abstracts (scheduled for release this month) and ABI/Inform, an index to business periodicals. Seven other data bases, including WorldCat, will continue to be funded by the Chicago Library System.

The data bases, which are a product of FirstSearch, OCLC's on-line search service, are available to the University community through the campus network. The files can also be searched on workstations in the Chemistry Library, Crerar Library, the D'Angelo Law Library, Eckhart Library, Regenstein Library and the Social Service Administration Library.

Faculty, students and staff who have accounts on the Academic Server Cluster may access the data bases by entering "firstsearch" at the quads, ellis, kimbark or woodlawn prompt. For accounts not on the cluster, e-mail FirstSearch@lib.uchicago.edu to request instructions for logging on to FirstSearch.

Instructions for searching FirstSearch and other electronic resources are available in print in the Library and in the Library Information section of UCInfo, the University gopher. This section of UCInfo also includes information about other electronic resources available on the campus network.

For more information, call the Reference Department in Regenstein Library at 702-4685 or e-mail FirstSearch@lib.uchicago.edu.
