Zydeco dance band at 'Welcome' party

"Dancing Under the Stars," a zydeco dance party for the University community, will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the Hyde Park Shopping Center, 55th Street and Lake Park Avenue. The party is being sponsored by the merchants of the center as a "Welcome Back to Hyde Park" kickoff to the academic year.

Strings of white lights will brighten the courtyard, and maroon and white balloons will adorn the event, which will feature the music of Guy Lawrence and the Chideco Zydeco Band. For a $1 donation, the Hyde Park Art Center will supply materials to "create your own kitschy boutonniere or corsage."

Registration for prize certificates from the shopping center's merchants will be held during the party. Participants can register in the center's shops; stores will be open until 9 p.m.

Admission to the party, which is free, is by UCID. Food and beverages provided by Shore East Cafe, 7167 S. Exchange, will be available for purchase.
