Several changes in campus bus service

New 24-hour automated bus- information line: 702-3988 Several changes in the University's bus service are being implemented this quarter. An automated bus-information line has been installed, the daytime campus bus routes have been renamed, campus bus service has been made more accessible for CTA riders, and the trolley has been replaced by the Midway Shuttle.

The 24-hour automated bus-information line gives information on all transportation services offered by the University and the Hospitals, as well as information on other transportation available in Hyde Park. The bus-information line number is 702-3988.

To make the daytime campus bus service more "user-friendly," Facilities Planning & Management has renamed the routes to eliminate confusion and has extended the campus bus service free of charge to faculty, students and staff who commute to campus on a CTA bus.

The Red Line, previously the North-South line, serves central Hyde Park. The Green Line, previously the East-West line, serves east Hyde Park. As a service to CTA riders, the Red Line campus bus route has been altered to provide better service to commuters who use CTA transportation to connect to the area of 51st Street and Cornell Avenue. The Red Line route will turn east on 51st Street to Hyde Park Boulevard, travel south to 53rd Street and then turn west to Harper, where it will resume its former route. CTA riders with a CTA transfer or a monthly pass and a UCID can board campus buses on both the Red Line and Green Line free of charge.

A new vehicle -- following a slightly altered route -- has replaced the University's campus trolley, which is out of service due to extensive mechanical problems. The Midway Shuttle, a free bus service, operates in a loop around the Midway Plaisance from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday (except University holidays). The route starts at the 59th Street Metra station and runs west to Cottage Grove Avenue, south to 60th Street, east to Stony Island Avenue and north to 59th Street. The shuttle will not stop in the Main Quadrangle. After 6 p.m., the shuttle will follow the F evening bus route.
