    Barden appointed Assistant VP for Development

    Dennis Barden has been appointed Assistant Vice President for University Development & Alumni Relations by Randy Holgate, Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations, effective Sept. 1. Barden has been Assistant Dean and Director of Development for the Law School for the past seven years.

    "We are very pleased to have Dennis join us. He has done an outstanding job in all aspects of development and alumni relations at the Law School and brings the highest level of expertise, experience and dedication to the central administration," Holgate said.

    In his new position, Barden will be the chief operating officer for the University's Development Office. Barden will manage activities in the offices of Special Gifts, Annual Funds, Corporate & Foundation Relations, Donor Relations, Gift Planning and Research Services. These offices seek gifts and grants for the University from individuals, foundations and corporations; prepare trust and gift documents; and report to donors of endowed funds. Barden will also coordinate University solicitations by all campus fundraising departments.

    Barden joined the University in 1987. Before coming to Chicago, he was at Northwestern for three years, first as associate director for development for the technology institute and then as director of development for the college of arts and sciences. He also was regional director of development at Georgetown from 1981 to 1984 and assistant director of annual giving at St. Lawrence University from 1979 to 1981. He received his B.A. from St. Lawrence in 1979.
