UT presenting 'The Two Gentlemen of Verona'

The ambiance of a Renaissance spectacle will be recreated in Hutchinson Courtyard with two University Theater performances of William Shakespeare's "The Two Gentlemen of Verona," to be presented at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, and Saturday, Aug. 13. The festivities will begin at 7 p.m. each evening when strolling musicians, jugglers, dancers and victual vendors will entertain the crowd and offer tempting treats.

"The Two Gentlemen of Verona," presented here in a fast-paced, irreverent production, satirizes the amorous misadventures of Proteus and Valentine, two quixotic best friends who fall in love with the same girl. The play is directed by Matthew Abergel, a second-year graduate student in English Language & Literature.

Tickets are $6 for regular seating, $5 for lawn seats, and $25 for sponsor seating, which includes seating at a cabaret table and a complimentary pitcher of lemonade. For group rates or to charge by phone, call University Theater at 702-3414 (Visa and Mastercard accepted). Tickets also will be available at the door. The rain location is Mandel Hall.
