Junk mail, magazines fit for recycling

Believe it or not, there will soon be a better place for junk mail than the trash can.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 15, junk mail -- along with magazines, envelopes and a host of other paper products -- can be dumped in the white bags already provided by UCRecycle for the collection of white paper.

The following recyclable materials are acceptable for disposal in the white bags:

White and light-colored paper (except brown, no neon), including calculator tapes

    Computer paper (white and green)

Magazines, catalogs and bound journals (OK if labels are affixed)

    Junk mail and slick paper

Envelopes (including windows, but excluding brown)

Clips, staples and light-colored Post-it notes (no neon) may remain on paper. Do not include paper that is soiled.
