    Women's Board names new head

Iris Witkowsky will become Chairman of the Women's Board on July 1, succeeding Sonja Fischer (EX Col '63), who has been Chairman for the past four years.

A member of the Women's Board since 1986 and a member of its steering committee since 1990, Witkowsky is also chairman of the 1994-95 projects committee.

Witkowsky received her B.A. in 1950 from Northwestern. She is a board member for the Chicago Commons Association, the International Visitor's Center and the "Know Your Chicago" Committee, of which she was chairman this year. She is married to real-estate consultant Jack Witkowsky (A.B.'37, M.B.A.'38).

In addition to sponsoring programs for members, the Women's Board funds projects on campus. During the 1994-95 fiscal year, the Women's Board will fund a summer humanities seminar for high school teachers, partially fund the Summer Research Opportunities Program, provide a challenge grant to purchase a new concert grand piano for Mandel Hall, provide funds to publish "A Woman's Guide to the U of C" and assist University Theater with its educational outreach program.

The board will also help Doc Films upgrade the speakers in Max Palevsky Cinema, help buy computer equipment to improve the teaching of foreign languages, purchase additional aerobics equipment for the new fitness area at Henry Crown Field House, help fund renovations at Court Theatre and provide support for the Environmental Center and for the Gender Studies Program.
