Music, dancing on Main Quad May 20 & 21

A weekend of music and warm-weather fun is planned for Friday, May 20, and Saturday, May 21, when Summer Breeze, the annual spring fun fest, coincides for the first time with the Outdoor Show, the annual multiband music marathon held in Hutchinson Courtyard.

Summer Breeze, presented by the Council on University Programming, will kick off the weekend at 5 p.m. Friday, May 20, with the start of a 24-hour dance-a-thon to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The entire University community is invited to participate in the contest, which will be held in the Main Quadrangle. Prizes, including two plane tickets, will be awarded to the person who dances the longest and to the person who raises the most money, and all participants will receive commemorative T-shirts. Student disc jockeys, who will play music on the quads throughout the dance-a-thon, will compete in a showdown starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 20. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, the students will be joined by disc jockeys from radio station Q101.

From noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Summer Breeze activities will range from sumo wrestling to the chance to be a human bowling ball. Food booths will be scattered around the quadrangle, with prices for food beginning at 25 cents.

At 4:30 p.m., the Major Activities Board will present its final concert of the year, the Outdoor Show, featuring Chicago bands Urge Overkill, Veruca Salt, Sabalon Glitz and Specula. Tickets are $2 and are available only with a UCID at Reynolds Club Bookstore Branch. The show will be held in Hutchinson Courtyard; the rain location is Mandel Hall.
