    Woman sought in armed robberies

Police believe a woman who acted alone committed two armed robberies on the south side of the Midway during the past two weeks.

The robberies occurred at 6:26 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, in the 1000 block of East 60th Street and at 4:20 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, in the 1100 block of East Midway Plaisance. In both incidents, the offender exited a vehicle, approached a woman on the street, displayed a gun, demanded the victim's purse and fled in the vehicle.

"Since the offender was seen by more than one individual, the likelihood of identification and arrest is good," said Rudolph Nimocks, Director of University Police. Nimocks said police patrol in that area is highly concentrated during the times that the robberies occurred, but patrol of the area has since been further intensified.

The offender was described as an African-American woman, 25-30 years old, 5'3"-5'7", with a slim build and medium complexion; in the second incident, she was described as wearing a blue wool cap, purple coat and dark slacks. The vehicle is described as a blue hatchback with rust on its rear panels and an unknown Illinois license plate.
