Record amount pledged in United Way campaign

A record amount in contributions -- $241,326 -- has been pledged to the University's Campaign for the United Way/Crusade of Mercy and Other Charities. Nearly 1,200 employees -- also a record number -- contributed to the campaign, which exceeded its goal of $240,000.

"We are thrilled with the results of this year's campaign, and we want to thank all of the employees who contributed for their thoughtfulness and generosity," said Henry Webber, Associate Vice President for Administration and campaign coordinator. "This money will help numerous people in need in the Chicago area, including many families in the Hyde Park area."

A raffle was held Feb. 1 for all employees who contributed to the campaign up to that time. Contributions are accepted throughout the year, Webber said.

This year's top raffle prize, two round-trip tickets to Tampa or Orlando, Fla., or New York City, donated by Kiwi Airlines in conjunction with Midway Travel Services, went to Melanie Macielewicz of the Office of International Affairs.
