    Ramanujan memorial service

    A memorial service for A.K. Ramanujan, the William H. Colvin Professor in South Asian Languages & Civilizations, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel.

    Ramanujan died July 13 at Bernard Mitchell Hospital. He was an internationally renowned poet and scholar who studied mythology, folklore, poetics and Indian and English literatures.

    Wendy Doniger, the Mircea Eliade Professor in the Divinity School, and Vinay Dharwadker, one of Ramanujan's former students, will speak at the memorial service. Comments by David Grene, Professor in the Committee on Social Thought, will be read by Stephen Gabel, Director of Academic Publications, and comments by Edward Dimock, Distinguished Service Professor in South Asian Languages & Civilizations, will be read by Krishna Ramanujan, A.K. Ramanujan's son. Richard Stern, the Helen A. Regenstein Professor in English Language & Literature, will read selections from Ramanujan's poetry. Music will be provided by Lyon Leifer.

    Immediately following the memorial service, a reception will be held in the Quadrangle Club.
