    Inauguration celebration Oct. 20

Hugo F. Sonnenschein will be inaugurated as the University's 11th president at a special convocation Wednesday, Oct. 20. After delivering the inaugural address, he will bestow honorary degrees upon eight distinguished scholars from around the world.

Convocation will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel and will be carried by closed-circuit television to Mandel Hall, Max Palevsky Cinema, the Law School Auditorium and Breasted Hall. No tickets will be needed for off-site viewing; admittance to Rockefeller Chapel will be by ticket only.

The afternoon will feature a series of symposia (see page 3) and the evening will offer fireworks and a party for members of the University community and their families. The party will be held both indoors and outdoors at Ida Noyes Hall and will include food, a cartoon festival and a wide variety of music--klezmer, jazz, rock and country, with lessons in country line dancing.

A complete schedule of inauguration events will appear in the Oct. 14 issue of the Chronicle.

Sonnenschein assumed the presidency on July 1, when Hanna Gray retired after 15 years as president.
