Edgar Meyer (directly above, left), a performer and composer who began learning the bass at age 5, teaches Kirsten Paige and Andrew Harmon (top photos) in a master class in Fulton Recital Hall. Meyer, who has premiered works for the opening of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville, Tenn., as well as commissions for the Montalvo Arts Center and New York’s Lincoln Center, guided the two students through several pieces, challenging their performance skills. Collaborations are central to Meyer’s work, and his recording of “Appalachia Waltz” with Yo-Yo Ma and Mark O’Connor topped the charts for 16 weeks.
