Rising third-year student David Stein, 20
David Stein, a rising third-year in the College, was found dead on Friday, June 27. He was 20 years old. Stein was a neurobiology concentrator in the College and an avid science lover. During his first two years at the University, he lived in the Snell-Hitchcock dorm and was active in the on-campus Jewish community and the Newberger Hillel Center. This summer, Stein was living in Hyde Park while taking a summer course in organic chemistry. His parents, Seth and Carol Stein of Glencoe, and sister Rachel survive him. Stein also was the nephew of Gil Stein, Director of the Oriental Institute. An on-campus memorial service will be held at the beginning of the Fall Quarter, in order for students, faculty and staff to mourn as a community. Susan Art, Dean of Students in the College, urged students in need of support to utilize campus resources, including the Student Counseling and Resource Service or staff members in the Office of the Dean of Students, campus ministries, residence hall staff and College advisers. Contributions can be made in Stein’s name to Friends of the Glencoe Public Library or to Am Yisrael Synagogue. Additional information is available from the Shalom Memorial Funeral Home at (847) 255-3520.
