    “How Does Change Happen?”

    As part of the Organization of Black Students’ annual Kent Lecture, civil rights icon Angela Davis will address the issue of “unfinished work in the struggle for equality” in America. This lecture will focus on the current state of democracy in America and the social challenges that remain for its multicultural citizens. The goal of the lecture is to open a dialogue on how citizens of all races might work together to make progress toward racial equality and solid political influence.     The Revels return in “Good as Gold.”

    Revels’ Revue

    Friday, Jan. 25-Saturday, Jan. 26

    This year’s Revels’ Revue, “Good as Gold,” will again feature University and community talent. Faculty and staff cast members include Michael Behnke, Vice President and Dean of College Enrollment; David Bevington, the Phyllis Fay Horton Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in Humanities; and Phil Hoffman, Professor of Hematology and Oncology in Medicine. Cabell King, classicist, and Barbara Flynn Currie, Majority Leader of the Illinois House of Representatives, lead the community cast. The show’s musical score was written by Robert Ashenhurst, Professor Emeritus in the Graduate School of Business, and includes a “best of” Revels songs dating back to 1958. The show has been dedicated to Ashenhurst on his 50th anniversary as a Revel. There will be 8 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday; on Friday, tickets are $20 (buffet dinner is an additional $20) and on Saturday, a dinner (at 6 p.m.) and show will be $65 per person.     “Adaptation”: Video Installations by Ben-Ner, Herrera, Sullivan, and Sussman & The Rufus Corporation

    Thursday, Jan. 31 – Sunday, May 4

    The free exhibition looks at the use of adaptation in the recent work of four leading artists: Guy Ben-Ner, Arturo Herrera, Catherine Sullivan, and Eve Sussman & The Rufus Corporation. These artists have transformed source material to make their own adapted works of art, re-envisioning classic literature, painting, film, ballet and even e-mail for new video installations.     Lecture by Ayesha Siddiqa

    Ayesha Siddiqa will speak about her latest book, Military Inc.: Inside Pakistan’s Military Economy. Pakistan has emerged as a strategic ally in the United States’ war on terror, but it also serves as a breeding ground for fundamentalists groups. How long can the relationship between the U.S. and Pakistan continue? The event is co-sponsored with the South Asian Language and Area Center and the Committee on Southern Asian Studies.
