Maroons’ No. 1 fan
| Last year, Bernard DelGiorno (A.B.,’54, A.B.,’55, M.B.A.,’55) gave a $2 million gift to the University to replace Stagg Field’s grass with artificial turf, to install new lighting and to resurface the running track. On Saturday, Sept. 15, the University shined a spotlight on DelGiorno at the Maroons’ first home football game with a picnic and ceremonial lighting of the newly installed field lights. The event kicked off the first night football game at Chicago, when the Maroons played Elmhurst College. The renovations are expected to increase annual student use of Stagg Field from 100 varsity athletes to 1,000 student athletes. Above, DelGiorno stands on the sideline during the Pledge of Allegiance.
