    Student parents get helping hand

Newly launched by the Office of Graduate Affairs, the Family Resource Center held an opening celebration last month to introduce parents to the new service. The center is a model program designed to support University professional schools and graduate student parents who are juggling the demands of their educations and families. Funded by the University’s Women’s Board, the center is located at 5655 S. University Ave., and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the academic year. It houses lactation and changing stations, parent-child activities, a play area, a computer station, a parent education lecture series, an information kiosk and an area for baby-sitting exchanges. Parents enjoy meeting each other at the center’s opening, while their children also make some new friendships. Clara Bowman (at left) shares the Barbie Dolls with Anna Schloerb (at right).
