    Celebrating a milestone

Members of the Board of Trustees, the faculty and administrative staff of the University thanked all the generous supporters whose gifts have helped make the Chicago Initiative a success as it moves closer to reaching its $2 billion goal. In April, the capital campaign reached a milestone, when a gift from Gerald Ratner put the campaign at the $1.5 billion mark. At Chicago Convenes on Friday, May 5, the University welcomed approximately 500 friends to a daylong celebration that included faculty seminars and panel discussions on new research, University initiatives and tours of new facilities. Neil Shubin, Chairman and Professor of Organismal Biology & Anatomy, (directly above) discusses his recent discovery of fossils that fill in the evolutionary gap between fish and land animals. Edgar Jannotta (center photo) greets the guests in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel as James Crown, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, prepares to present him with the University of Chicago medal. The top photo shows the transformed chapel in its Chicago Convenes splendor.
