    Named for Nobelist

With support from many donors, including a major gift from alumnus Richard Ryan (M.B.A.,’66), the Initiative on Chicago Price Theory will be known by its new name, the Becker Center on Chicago Price Theory, Founded by Richard O. Ryan, beginning Saturday, July 1. Becker was celebrated at the inaugural Initiative on Chicago Price Theory conference held earlier this month, where many of his colleagues and friends lauded the Nobel laureate’s scholarship. The Becker center is dedicated to developing courses and materials for M.B.A. and doctoral students to develop their ability to use Chicago price theory; bringing Ph.D. students to Chicago to study price theory; establishing postdoctoral fellowships for new Ph.D.s; and attracting and retaining the world’s leading scholars. Becker noted in his remarks that economics “is judged ultimately by how well it helps us understand the world and how well we can help improve it.”
