UHRM to make health, benefits resources available at fair

Resources to help employees assess their benefits and plan their financial and wellness goals will be provided at a benefits and health fair sponsored Thursday, March 9, on campus.

University Human Resources Management, the event sponsor, has chosen the theme “Determine Your Goals & Develop Your Plan,” and has planned a day of benefits- and health-related activities for University faculty and staff employees. Students and student-employees are not eligible to attend.

University benefits vendors, including four UHRM departments, will exhibit from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Rooms 104 A and B of the Graduate School of Business Hyde Park Center, 5807 S. Woodlawn Ave. The vendors include TIAA-CREF, Vanguard, the Graham School of General Studies, Metlife, Caremark and the Credit Union at the University of Chicago, among others.

Seven 30-minute presentations will be offered on wellness, financial planning and goal setting. Talks are scheduled throughout the day from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Room 104B in the GSB Hyde Park Center.

Community health organizations, including the Arthritis Foundation, Prevent Blindness America and the Center for Grief Recovery, will exhibit from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the third-floor atrium of the Center for Integrative Science, 929 E. 57th St. A blood drive also will be conducted at the CIS location by the Glenview, Ill.-based blood services organization, LifeSource.

In addition to the resource fair exhibits, two exercise classes (Pilates and yoga) will be held at the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center, and the Y-ME Breast Cancer Organization Mobile Mammogram Unit will provide 15 free mammograms.

The mammograms will be awarded to 15 female University employees who register by noon on Friday, March 3, for a chance to win. Employees must register through UHRM’s Training Registration System.

Mammogram raffle winners will be notified Monday, March 6, and will be advised how to schedule an appointment with the Y-ME Breast Cancer Organization in Chicago.

UHRM will raffle 27 free health screenings to be conducted by the University Hospitals, as well.
