    To learn and serve

Six students in the College, who are the recipients of University scholarships that reward the academic excellence of children whose parents are public servants in the city of Chicago, were recently honored with a reception in Ida Noyes Hall. The students enrolled in the College last fall with the assistance of a University scholarship program developed in the 1970s specifically for the children of Chicago’s firefighters and police officers. Chicago Police Superintendent Phil Kline and Chicago Fire Department Deputy Commissioner Norbert Diaz (center) join the 2005-06 scholarship recipients (from left) Ariel Erbacher, Evanston Township High School (C.P.D.); Emale Gray, St. Rita High School (C.F.D.); Geoffrey Gawne, Northside College Preparatory High School (C.P.D.); Claire Sheppard, St. Ignatius College Preparatory High School (C.F.D.); Aidan Roche, Northside College Preparatory High School (C.F.D.); and Brian Leahy, Christian Liberty Academy (C.F.D.).
