University Police investigating campus fires
As the Chronicle went to press Tuesday afternoon, police and fire departments were investigating four small fires that occurred in buildings on the Main Quadrangle Monday and Tuesday and were apparently intentionally set. No one was injured and property damage was slight. All of the fires involved paper, flammable liquid, or both. A fire in a Ryerson laboratory elevator burned itself out, another in Eckhart Hall was put out by a professor, and fires set in Kent laboratories and Swift Hall were put out by the Chicago Fire Department. Anyone with information about any of these fires is asked to contact the University Police Department at 702-8181. See the News Office Web page at www-news.uchicago.edu for updates.
