    Davis garden dedicated

The Dr. Allison Davis Garden, developed in Washington Park near the west end of the Midway Plaisance, opened Saturday, Sept. 17 with a reception that included remarks made by the late scholar’s son Allison Davis Jr. (above, right) and Mayor Richard Daley (above). The garden honors the late Allison Davis Sr., a pioneering scholar in education and other social sciences at the University. The one-acre garden was created directly east of artist Loredo Taft’s Fountain of Time sculpture. Designed by landscape architect Peter Lindsey Schaudt, the garden was funded by the Davis family, the University, the Chicago Park District, the Chicago Community Trust and other contributors. The University managed the project in partnership with the park district.
