    Graduates of the School of Social Service Administration celebrate at Convocation in June 2004. SSA students of the Class of 2005 will kick off the University’s 481st Convocation with Session I, which also includes students from the Law School and the Irving B. Harris Graduate School of Public Policy Studies. Session I begins at 9 a.m. Friday, June 10, in Harper Quadrangle.

    The University’s 481st Convocation will take place in Harper Quadrangle, rain or shine, Friday, June 10 through Sunday, June 12.

    Faculty speakers for this year’s Convocation are Cathy Cohen and Harry Davis.

    Cohen, Professor in Political Science and the College and Director of the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture, will deliver a speech titled “Race, Politics and the Costs of Compromise” during the ceremonies for the first three sessions. The program for Session III also will include remarks by graduating students Franklin McMillan, Elliot Tapper and Carlee Tressel.

    Davis, the Roger L. and Rachel M. Goetz Distinguished Service Professor of Creative Management in the Graduate School of Business, will deliver a speech titled “Being Silly, Seriously” at Session IV on Sunday, June 12.

    Session I will include the Law School, the Irving B. Harris Graduate School of Public Policy Studies and the School of Social Service Administration. The ceremony will take place Friday, June 10. Degree candidates will assemble at 7:45 a.m. in the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center. Faculty members who plan to march in the procession must arrive at Ratner Athletics Center 30 minutes before the ceremony begins. Harper Quadrangle will open at 7:45 a.m., and the ceremony will begin at 9 a.m.

    Session II will include the Graham School of General Studies, the Biological Sciences Division and the Pritzker School of Medicine, the Humanities Division, the Physical Sciences Division, the Social Sciences Division, and the Divinity School. The 2005 Faculty Awards for Excellence in Graduate Teaching will be presented at this session, and honorary degrees will be conferred on three scholars.

    The ceremony will take place Friday, June 10. Degree candidates will assemble at 2:15 p.m. in the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center. Faculty members who plan to march in the procession must arrive at Ratner Athletics Center 30 minutes before the ceremony begins. The quadrangle will open at 2:15 p.m., and the ceremony will begin at 3:30 p.m.

    Session III will be for students in the College. The Llewellyn John and Harriet Manchester Quantrell Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching will be presented at this session. The ceremony will take place Saturday, June 11. Degree candidates will assemble at 8:45 a.m. in the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center. Faculty members who plan to march in the procession must arrive at Ratner Athletics Center 30 minutes before the ceremony begins. The quadrangle will open at 8:45 a.m., and the ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.

    Session IV will be for students in the Graduate School of Business. The ceremony will take place Sunday, June 12. Degree candidates will assemble at 11:45 a.m. at the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center. Faculty members who plan to march in the procession must arrive at Ratner Athletics Center 30 minutes before the ceremony begins. The quadrangle will open at 11:45 a.m., and the ceremony will begin at 1 p.m.

    All guests, including children, must have a ticket for the College and Graduate School of Business ceremonies. Tickets are not needed for Sessions I and II. For guests who need or wish to be indoors, a real-time broadcast of each ceremony will be shown in Mandel Hall, 1131 E. 57th St. Indoor seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

    For Sessions III and IV, for the College and GSB, people wishing to be seated in Mandel Hall must have a ticket.
