    Midway through Winter


      
    Sonya Malunda, Assistant Vice-President and Director of Community Affairs, addressed a group of community members in December during a dedication of the new Winter Garden on the Midway Plaisance. The $1.6 million project was jointly funded by the Chicago Park District and the University. The Midway Plaisance Skating Rink and Warming Center, in its fourth season of operation, is open to skaters of all ages and abilities, with free open skating from noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 4:30 p.m. Friday. Admission is charged from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday; 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Mondays and Wednesdays offer pickup hockey from 7 to 9 p.m. for a $5 fee. Participants must bring their own equipment. Skate rental fees are $3 for children and $4 for adults. Ice skating lessons ($50 per session) are offered in four-week sessions through Monday, Feb. 28.
