    A memorial service for the late Alan Gewirth, the Edward Carson Waller Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in Philosophy and member of the Human Rights Program Board, will take place at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, in Bond Chapel. Gewirth, whose career at the University lasted more than 60 years, died Sunday, May 9, at the age of 91.

    Several Chicago faculty members will speak at the service, including Martha Nussbaum, the Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law & Ethics in the Law School, Philosophy and the Divinity School; Michael Green, Assistant Professor in Philosophy and the College; Iris Young, Professor in Political Science and the College; and Susan Gzesh, Director of the Human Rights Program.

    A reception will follow the service in the adjacent Swift Hall Commons Room, 1025 E. 58th St.
