Architect from Hyde Park will join Facilities Services May 3

    Elaine Lockwood Bean

Donald Reaves, Vice-President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer of the University, announced last week that Elaine Lockwood Bean will join the University as Associate Vice President for Facilities Services.

Bean has served as senior vice president of Tishman Construction Company for more than 10 years. Her projects at Tishman included the capital improvement plans of the Chicago Housing Authority and Chicago Public Schools and preconstruction services at Northwestern University.

A licensed architect, Bean has held positions at the State of Illinois Capital Development Board and Skidmore Owings & Merrill, where she served as senior designer on the Canary Wharf master plan in London. She earned her M.A. in architecture from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley.

A resident of Hyde Park for over five years, Bean has two children who attend the University Laboratory Schools.

“We did a nationwide search and in the end, we found the person we were looking for right in our own backyard,” said Reaves. “We are fortunate to have found in Elaine the experience, leadership and customer service orientation to lead Facilities Services into its challenging future.”

While Bean will be in transition from Tishman to the University in the next few months, she will begin working full time at Facilities Services on Monday, May 3.
