    Neuner named top soccer player

Second-year Renee Neuner was named the 2003 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Player of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Neuner received her award Saturday, Jan. 17, in Charlotte, N.C., as part of the 2004 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention.

Neuner, a forward, helped lead the Maroons to a second-place finish at the 2003 NCAA Division III championship, where she was selected to the all-tournament team.

She scored a school record of 21 goals, including seven game-winners, and added six assists to give her 48 points during the 2003 season.

One of her seven game-winning tallies came in the national semifinals, when she scored in the 106th minute in a 2-1 win over DePauw University.

In two years at Chicago, Neuner has earned numerous individual awards. She was cited as a first team All-American in 2003, and the University Athletic Association Most Valuable Player in 2002 and 2003.

Neuner, Chicago’s career scoring leader with 41 goals, also was a UAA All-Academic Recognition Award recipient this fall.
