Two additional days off scheduled for 2003-04 only

At the suggestion of Donald Reaves, Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer, President Randel has approved a one-time closure of the University on the Fridays following two University holidays-Christmas Day, Thursday, Dec. 25, and New Year’s Day, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004.

Because both holidays fall on Thursdays this year, employees will have the opportunity to enjoy two longer weekends during this normally slow time of the year. Staff will not need to use vacation or personal holiday accruals to take these days off.

Christmas Day 2004 and New Year’s Day 2005 will fall on Saturdays, however, so this policy will not apply next year.

Departments will need to manage their operations to afford staff this time off, and some departments will maintain essential staff to avoid disruption of services.

Employees who are required to work one or both of these dates will be able to take a day off at another time.

Biweekly employees who are required to work one or both days will be paid straight time for every hour worked.
