    Iraq official to lecture on museum looting

    A rare opportunity to learn first-hand about the recent loss of artifacts in Iraq will be offered at a lecture by Iraqi museum official Donny George.

    The lecture will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, in Mandel Hall, 5706 S. University Ave.

    George, general director for research with the Iraq State Board of Antiquities, Baghdad, will discuss “Counting the Losses-Six Months after the Iraq Museum Looting.”

    His visit is being organized by the Oriental Institute in connection with the completion of the remodeling of the Mesopotamian Gallery, which will open to the public Saturday, Oct. 18.
