    Siegler, Thaler featured faculty speakers for Convocation

    The University's 473rd Convocation ceremonies will take place in Harper Quadrangle, rain or shine, Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June 15.

    All guests, including children, must have a ticket for Session III, the College ceremony, and Session IV, the Graduate School of Business ceremony. Tickets are not needed for Sessions I and II.

    In addition, a real-time broadcast of each ceremony will be shown in Mandel Hall for guests who need or wish to be indoors. Indoor seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Faculty speakers for this year's Spring Convocation are Mark Siegler, the Lindy Bergman Distinguished Service Professor in Medicine, who will speak at Sessions I, II and III, and Richard Thaler, the Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Behavioral Science and Economics in the Graduate School of Business, who will speak at Session IV.

    Session I will honor graduates of the Law School, the Irving B. Harris Graduate School of Public Policy Studies and the School of Social Service Administration. The ceremony will take place Friday, June 13. Degree candidates will assemble at 8:45 a.m. in Henry Crown Field House.

    Faculty members who plan to march in the procession must arrive at Henry Crown Field House by 9:30 a.m. The quadrangle will open at 8:45 a.m., and the ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.

    Session II, also on Friday, June 13, will honor graduates of the Biological Sciences Division, the Pritzker School of Medicine, the Graham School of General Studies, the Humanities Division, the Physical Sciences Division, the Social Sciences Division and the Divinity School. The 2003 Faculty Awards for Excellence in Graduate Teaching will be presented at this session, and honorary degrees will be conferred on three scholars, as well. Degree candidates will assemble at 1:45 p.m. in Henry Crown Field House. Faculty members who plan to march in the procession must arrive at Henry Crown Field House by 2:30 p.m. The quadrangle will open at 1:45 p.m., and the ceremony will begin at 3 p.m.

    Session III, which will take place Saturday, June 14, will honor graduates of the College. The Llewellyn John and Harriet Manchester Quantrell Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching will be presented at this session.

    Degree candidates will assemble at 8:45 a.m. in Henry Crown Field House. Faculty members who plan to march in the procession must arrive at Henry Crown Field House by 9:30 a.m. The Harper Quadrangle will open at 8:45 a.m., and the ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.

    Session IV, which will take place Sunday, June 15, will honor graduates of the Graduate School of Business. Degree candidates will assemble at 12:15 p.m. in Henry Crown Field House. Faculty members who plan to march in the procession must arrive at Henry Crown Field House by 1 p.m. The quadrangle will open at 12:15 p.m., and the ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m.
